There has been a recent increase in the number of ticks in Europe due to global warming. Ticks are carriers of encephalitis, Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis, babesiosis and other serious diseases that are very difficult to treat. In order to avoid giving up the adventures of ooutdoor activities or to protect you while working in nature, we have developed a special polypropylene yarn Prolen ® IXO, which reduces the possibility of being attacked by IXODES Ricinus – a tick, which is most common in Europe. This yarn contains natural substances that are non-irritating to humans, it is made on a natural basis without pesticides and synthetic repellents. It was developed in Slovakia in the company Chemosvit FIbrochem, s.r.o. in cooperation with the Institute of Parasitology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice and the Faculty of Science of the University of P. P. Safarika in Košice.
Prolen® IXO is treated with a repellent based on natural substances, active substance: Decanoic acid (n-decanoic acid, capric acid). This substance has a tick repellent effect and has been registered by the European Chemicals Agency since 1 November 2015 for use as an active substance in repellents (product category 19) and pest control (product category 18).
Certificates and test reports
The protocol for performing the 1/2019-FibroTick replication test from the Center for Applied Research of the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice determined a reduction in the residence time of adult female Ixodes ricinus on the fabric compared to an equivalent fabric made of repellent-free fiber.
