Are you an outdoor enthusiast? It may have cooled down a bit outside, but some of us are still ready to hit the mountains. So for all the holiday makers and hikers out there, here's a list of how to dress for a proper autumn hike.
Functional Thermal Wear
The foundation of any good walk is, for entirely logical reasons, the principle of layering. After all, a few thinner layers can sometimes guarantee you much more warmth and comfort than a thick down jacket. As temperatures in cities have dropped to around 15°C, we should start adding thermal underwear to our kit. Whether you choose functional term socks, term shirts, or both, be sure to choose breathable, lightweight, and fast-drying materials. Keep in mind that you will probably be moving excessively and for several hours, so you need to be as comfortable as possible.
Functional interlayer
In this weather, underwear alone won't do anyway. That's why, as part of your "onion layering", you should add an intermediate layer to your outfit in the form of a sweatshirt or thermal layer. However, it is important to note that in some cases, underlayers of clothing are already capable of providing this function.
Waterproof top layer
Every good hiker knows that you can't rely 100% on the weather forecast. That's why it's always a good idea to take out insurance. For example, with a good quality third layer - softshell or hardshell, which won't get waterlogged under any circumstances and will also provide useful wind protection. With such waterproof, windproof and abrasion-resistant materials, you definitely don't have to worry about being surprised by an unexpected change in the weather in the mountains.
Overtrousers
The third layer includes, of course, waterproof, windproof or softshell trousers. These should not only be lightweight breathable and quick drying, but ideally reinforced not only at the knees, but also at the buttocks. There is also the advantage of an increased waistband, which provides greater protection from the elements. A great benefit is also the stretch at the bottom of the trousers with drawstring, elastic, zipper or Velcro. These will prevent blowing and dirt from getting in from underneath. Of course, they are also adequately long so that the trousers cover the top of the shoes.
Hiking shoes
Shoes can ruin your walk in the fresh air in just a few minutes. Let alone during a several-hour hike. That's why you should consider your choice of hiking shoes very well and prioritize quality over price. And don t forget that for every physical activity, you also need to consider the choice of an adequate shoe filler. Ideally thermoregulating socks to keep you warm in the event of extreme cold and cool again in the event you get hot.
Add-ons
Well, to make your gear complete, we recommend adding a few functional all-weather accessories. caps are a versatile choice for really all seasons. They not only provide protection from aggressive UV rays, but also a thermal and windproof layer during the cold months of the year. With the coming autumn and winter weather, protective neckwear and gloves are absolutely in order when hiking.
