This is due to the structure of the wool fibre, which contains a large number of protrusions and "pockets" in which the heat produced by the wearer is trapped. Karpathia® summer merino ankle socks are made of antibacterial Prolen®Siltex polypropylene fibre. This fibre is permanently treated with a silver ion based antibacterial additive. Prolen®Siltex fibre effectively prevents the growth of bacteria, reduces unpleasant odours. Prolen®Siltex is a polypropylene fibre which has been produced in Slovakia since 1970 by Chemosvit Fibrochem s.r.o. This fibre is characterized by excellent thermal insulation properties as well as the speed of moisture wicking away from the skin to the environment. At the same time, Prolen®Siltex fibre retains its colour fastness and the specially dyed fibre does not endanger your health. As the skin represents the largest organ of the human body, it easily absorbs toxic substances.
